Tolerable Sins

How do we define the word common? Something that is typical that happens frequently in which is labelled as ordinary. Take your brand new handset for example. It is given the out-most care and treated as if it is made up of fragile glass. Fast forward a few months, could not care less type of throwing handset on bed or sofa gesture will be implemented automatically. Why? Simple, it is a customary act done where we have no guilt about because many do so.

Parents were our first hero that slowly turns to be a so called ‘burden’ upon us as they struggled to cope themselves into our modern society and way of thinking. Take a moment and revert back on the number of times that we have showed our rudeness, intolerance, impatience towards them. Being shy of them in front of our peers when all they wanted to do is be closer to us. We feel irritated to teach them how to use a handset when they have thought us the right way of life all these years. Are we capable and willing enough to take care of them when they get old like how they have given us shelter ever since we were infants?

Teenagers who find it hard to get along with parents

Avoiding certain people to escape from awkward conversations has become a norm. The manner we allow ourselves to be drone, manipulated and influenced by the social media is something for us to reassess. The wasting of food when we are fully aware of people suffering without it and the obligation of being too choosy for food.

The unthinkable amount of wasted food.

The evolution of meaningful and soulful song being less popular compared to a meaningless one due to the pornographic like videos. Awards ceremony for porn actors, films, directors and the existence of believe in nudism. These are not things that I find wrong or in any way against it but the fact that it has become so common that society tend to accept it.

Nudism where it is ought to believe in negative energy free.

A woman who chooses her path to be a prostitute for easy income to support her family is not the same as a little girl condemned to be forced into the same trail. It is a glaring contradiction. Legal prostitution has become the main source of income at certain places. Bribery on the other hand, has become the easy solution for people to get what they desire.

Human trafficking has to come to a stop!

BBC’s documentary ‘India’s Daughter’ reveals the sad truth of what innocent girls fear in the lesser parts of the world. The fact that we breathe the same air as those rapists who managed to walk away freely by people who defended them claiming that rape happens at the fault of the victim. You read that right, the fault of the victim! A man putting his desires ahead of a woman’s right and dignity is no place for any sort of acceptance. The fear that such circumstances is slowly but surely going to be a tolerable act is frightening to say the least. Humans and monsters will have no contrast in the near future albeit the present.

The bizarre statement of the rapist from the interview

The amount of blood spilled in the name of religion is beyond belief. As far as I am concerned, no teaching encourages killing and ending the soul given by the power above. The doings of certain people affects the name of the religion in a whole. Adding to that, suicidal is the initiative taken that shows the ungratefulness of having the gift of life. Millions of lives would have been, could have been saved without the existence of religion. Nations that are indirectly leading towards dictatorship empowerment when it is actually a democratic country.

Victims about to be beheaded in the name of religion.

To say that I have not engaged myself to some of these sins would mean that I am committing the biggest sin of all which is lying. Lie has reached a tolerance level so high that at times we don’t even realise that we lie. Sometimes we do it for good, most of times for bad. Who are we to judge? We do not qualify to do this. Only in a world that has become this corrupted, we could actually tolerate these sins and keep a straight face. Has the influence of evil surpassed the good? Is the world heading in the right direction? We see a deadly sin at every street, home, society but we tolerate it. We tolerate it because it is common.

Superhero Rumble!

*credits to Kugarubaan Sri Vetrivelan for the editing.

*credits to Kuganesh Periasamy Pillai for the draw.

H: Welcome Ladies & Gentlemen to the first and only Superhero Rumble!!....I am your host this evening for this eagerly anticipated match. Who will reign supreme in tonight’s penultimate showdown and claim the ultimate bragging rights? Remember it’s every man for himself and the only way of eliminating your opponent is over the top rope and they have to hit the ground. TV audience has been advised with parental guidance and it’s a grand sold out with a total audience of 18,200 here in Madison Square Garden, Manhattan.

H: I am joined here by one of the most respected Marvel figures, Professor Charles Xavier. Professor, how are you feeling and what is your prediction for tonight?

Professor X: I am feeling great son, feeling great.  My prediction?  That’s a tough one. DC has some really strong characters but Marvel has more variety in their powers….well…maybe an X-men member might win…I would be pleased with that.

H: Perfect professor. Just promise us that you would not be entering any person’s mind tonight yea.

Professor X: Yes you can put your money on that.

H: Last question professor, your thoughts about Avengers 2, did you see it?

Professor X: Oh yes definitely it was good but between us, Days of future past was better yea.

H: Excellent Professor! Have a great evening, enjoy the show.

Professor X: You too son.

H: Let’s not waste much time and get into the serious business as the rumble starts in less than 5 minutes. As you can see on the right corner is Loki as the manager for Marvel & the left corner, The Joker representing DC.

H: Good evening Loki, how did the draw went last night, and do you feel you have selected the right 15 to represent Marvel?

Loki: I hope my selection was the right one and the draw went well.

H: Interesting, we will see how it pens out and how about you Joker, feeling excited?

Joker: I only have one thing to say, that you are doing a horrible job as the host. HAHAHA.

H: oh…okay….that hurt…

Loki: I just hope anyone from Marvel will win besides my brother.

H: As an enemy of Marvel, don’t you want someone from DC to win?

Loki: It does not work like that, if your enemy wins that shows that you are the better villain.

Joker: True.

Loki: We are the manager anyway, for some Godforsaken reason the management decided to just place us as manager rather than participate. So frustrating.

Joker: True.

Crowd: 10……9………8……..7……

H: This is it. The countdown has started. Thank you Joker and Loki. All the best for your teams!
Who will be the first one to step to the ring?

Crowd: 3…..2….1…..

H: Are you ready to rumble!!!!

Entry #1: Catwoman

Catwoman as entry #1 for the rumble

H: Ohhhh…The gorgeous woman from DC kicks starts this rumble and the crowd is going wild. Who could argue with that? Just look at her she’s just perfect!

Crowd: 3….2….1….

Entry #2: Bane

H: Batman’s latest villain joins  and…..oh wait…..what is going on here?....Bane doesn’t seem to be pleased.

Bane: Is this some kind of a joke?....This is how you people value me?... To go against Catwoman?

H: It is the draw Bane. There is nothing we can do.

Bane: You just stand at that corner Kitty!...Don’t ever think of coming near me!

Catwoman: Never thought that you will be intimated by me.

Crowd: 3…2…1….

Entry #3: Green Lantern

H: Here comes another DC hero and is working Bane without wasting time. Bane is getting a run for
his money but able to stay strong for now…barely.

Entry #4: Quicksilver

H: The first Marvel is finally out and the tempo here is definitely gonna increase a few notches with Quicksilver’s amazing speed!....The superheroes in the ring are finding it difficult to see him let alone the crowd.

Bane & Green Lantern teaming up to eliminate the speedy Quicksilver

H: Looks like Bane, Green Lantern & Catwoman are forming a mini ally to eliminate Quicksilver. He needs help and quick.

Entry #5: Captain America

H: It is the Americans favourite son and the crowd is going bizarre!  Captain immediately breaks the plot against Quicksilver and is in a bare knuckle brawl with Bane with Green Lantern handling Quicksilver.

Captain America vs Bane

Entry #6: Mystique

H: Catwoman will no longer be a spectator as here is the mystical Mystique. Who doesn’t love a live catfight?

Elimination!

H: Green Lantern eliminates Quicksilver with his ring rays. The first elimination of the night!

Entry #7: Aquaman

H: Another DC entry and things isn’t looking good for Captain America if DC works together to finish off the Captain.

Elimination!

H: Mystique eliminates Catwoman with a superb kick to the jaw over the top rope. That must have hurt.

Entry #8: Dr. Manhattan

H: A powerhouse entry and it will not be pretty now. Either he teams up with the rest of DC to eliminate Captain America or take out everyone by using his duplicating powers.

Dr. Manhattan with his duplicating powers

H: The Doctor goes for the latter and attacks everyone. There are 5 of himself now and the ring is getting crowded by the minute.

Elimination!

H: The duplicates take out Green Lantern and Bane.

Entry #9: Wonder Woman

H: Another DC character joins and she immediately helps Aquaman to eliminate 2 of Dr. Manhattan’s duplicate. Captain America eliminates another duplicate. Mystique has been missing, she must have transform herself to one of the duplicate as that explains why there are still 3 left instead of 2. But which one is Mystique?...and which one is the original Dr. Manhattan?...

Entry #10: Thor

H: The demigod is here to help out his Avenger leader, oh how happy Captain America is to see him.

Thor wastes no time as he strikes his hammer on floor of the ring and creates an electrical wave spark which leaves everyone clinging to the ropes. This would have definitely maddened Dr. Manhattan as he goes full force against Thor.

Dr. Manhattan vs Thor

Elimination!

H: Wonder Woman eliminates one of the duplicate which turns out to be actually Mystique!

Entry #11: Robin

H: Thor and Captain America need to watch each other’s backs now as Marvel are getting outnumbered by DC at the moment.

Elimination!

H: Robin gets the early bath treatment as he gets knocked over by Dr. Manhattan’s duplicate after just entering the ring!

Entry #12: Daredevil

H: It is 3 Marvel vs 3 DC now but they need to eliminate Dr. Manhattan sooner rather than later before he duplicates again. Captain America looks lethargic now. Does he still have enough in him to hang on? Thor eliminates the last duplicate and Aquaman almost got rid of Daredevil but he holds on.

Elimination!

H: Dr. Manhattan eliminates Wonder Woman. He is certainly not interested whatsoever in helping out the DC characters.

Entry #13: Batman

H: The place is absolutely rocking now with the arrival of the Dark Knight! Thor is going blow for blow against Dr. Manhattan which seems to be an even competition. Batman and Captain America are exchanging punches for fun while Aquaman is biding his time smartly at the corner. Daredevil is slowly getting back to his feet after suffering from the hands of Aquaman.

H: Loki seems to supporting Dr. Manhattan to take out Thor! He still remembers that he is Marvels’ manager right? So much of hate towards his brother.

Entry #14: Martian Manhunter

H: Another Justice League member joins the party and spares not time trying to put an end to Captain America’s quest of winning. Thor comes to his Captain’s aid and strikes his hammer to Martian’s back sending him flying across the ring and literally passed out.

Elimination!

H: Aquaman seizes the opportunity to eliminate the unconscious Martian Manhunter without a sense of pity to his Justice League partner.

Aquaman eliminates Martian Manhunter

Elimination!

H: Dr. Manhattan eliminates Daredevil during this chaotic sequence as Batman still looks puzzle of Aquaman’s action. You really cannot blame Aquaman though. It’s every man for himself.

Elimination!

H: A combination of Thor’s hammer and Captain America’s shield produce a powerful wave which they directed at the shaken Batman and the crowd favourite has been eliminated! Is Aquaman to be blamed for this? One of the favourites has gone.

Thor & Captain America eliminates Batman!

Entry #15: Flash

H: Here comes…

Loki: Wait! Wait!...Hold on Flashy, stay right there. I have an announcement to make.

H: What is this??

Loki: As the official manager for Marvel, I am disqualifying Thor from this match!

Thor: What??...Why??

Loki: You are ineligible to participate because you are not from this planet!

Thor: But…but… Superman is an alien too?

Loki: I don’t give a shit! I just don’t want you to win!

Thor: How can you do this? I am your brother.

Loki: Ah ha, stepbrother.

H: Thor has no choice and leaves the ring. Everyone is finding it hard to digest what just happen.

Crowd: BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO……BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Loki: Yeah, yeah. Jeer all you want, I am not finished. To make it fair to DC as my team has wasted a spot, I am rewarding them with an extra entrant after the 30th entry. Is that ok Joker?

Joker: Excellent!

Crowd: LOKI SUCKS!!!....LOKI SUCKS!!!....LOKI SUCKS!!!

H: This is a totally unforeseen scenario. Which DC character will be credited with this extra entry ticket? Can Captain America hold his wits as the only Marvel hero against Dr. Manhattan, Aquaman and the Flash from DC?...and who will be the eventual winner tonight?....The likes of Superman, Wolverine, and The Hulk are yet to come out. Stay tuned Ladies and gentlemen after this short commercial to find out!

7 stages you experience at your 1st concert

The Script is an Irish indie pop band consisting of 3 members. I’ve been their fan since 2012, when their third studio album called #3 was released in 2012. Being someone relatively open to any type songs let it be country, pop, rock, techno and even hard metal, I found that for some reason or another their songs seemed to be really meaningful with their choice of words and the way they project a love story through their lyrics and this includes their love for people, parents, lover, country etc. After seeing some of their concerts in YouTube, I’ve always wondered if I could one day participate in such concert.

Check this out!
The Script homecoming concert in Dublin

They say dreams do come true and what do you know after the release of their 4th album entitled ‘No Sound without Silence’ in 2014, they decided to have an Asian tour. I was filled joy and was not going to let this opportunity pass by. It was my very first concert and felt lucky enough that it will be the concert of my favourite band. These are the experience I felt during my first concert:

1)      The Relive stage

The Script is not really the talked about band and their songs are barely known among our society let alone my peers. I really had literally no one to share their songs that I like with. Hence, the journey to Stadium Malawati, Shah Alam where the concert was held, was exciting but also the feeling of discontent. Was hoping for a big crowd to get a great atmosphere and was overjoyed to see the amount of people gathered around the stadium minutes before the start. Finally, I was able to console myself that I was not the only one who liked this band a lot and that there are many just like me.

2)      The Waiting stage

This is when you feel that time has stood still on you. The half an hour-an hour wait will seem to be like ages by just staring at the empty stage. Thankfully, Colton Avery, a singer and songwriter from Phoenix, U.S entertained us with few songs to kill the time. He was pretty good as well.

Colton Avery performing few songs

3)      The Arrival stage

I’ve always been described by most of my friends as someone who shows lack of emotions and excitement. I don’t know why, it’s just my nature and I was the same when the Script was about to make their entrance. Everyone was going wild. They surprised the crowd by walking through us and for the first time, I totally lost it as they were just in touching distance of me, as I was lucky enough to be standing right at the path. Never knew that I can actually be this excited. Literally, screamed my heart out. That feeling when you actually get to see the people you admire up close and personal, indescribable.

The Script walking through the crowd en route to the stage

4)      The First Song stage

This is when you realise how it feels to be in a crowded live concert. The intense atmosphere of the crowd matching the high energy levels of The Script with them playing ‘Paint the Town Green’ as the curtain raiser. They are from Dublin, Ireland with the native colour of green. It is a good gesture and symbol of not forgetting your roots no matter how successful you have become. Hence, paint the town green!

Lead member, Danny O'Donoghue

The Script performing 'If You Could See Me Now'

5)      The Favourite song stage

Well, we all have one most favourite song in the band we love. In my case, it’s ‘The Man Who Can’t Be Moved’ a track from their very first album. Judging by the response of the crowd when they played the song seems to be everyone’s favourite too. It was best moment of the night in which you’ll wish that it doesn’t end. Hearing the track in mp3 is vastly different when seeing them performing in the live stage. That being said, there is always that one song that we’ve never heard before. Just try your best to go with the flow if it happens or else you make look really silly.

The Script posing while wearing the 'songkok'

6)      The Last Song stage

The Script saved their best hit song till date for the very last to end the night with a bang with the track ‘Hall of Fame’. At this point, you probably would have lost all your voice. A cry of ‘WE WANT MORE, WE WANT MORE’ were chanted by the crowd after the breathtaking finale but knowing a great night has eventually come to an end.

Drummer, Glen Power

7)      The Departing stage

Like a big rock falling onto you, the reality check hits you hard again. It is time to store this beautiful experience behind you and face the daily routine of life again. Some fans stayed back and did the humming tune for the track ‘No Good in Goodbye’ that can be heard outside the stadium as I was rushing back to take a cab to catch the last train back to my university. The Script promised the fans that they will be back within 2 years and the Malaysian Script Family will be waiting eagerly for it I bet. Thank you The Script, till we meet again.

Tamil Cinema actors as The Avengers!

*Credits to Kugarubaan Sri Vetrivelan for the editing.

Since Avengers 2: Age of Ultron was released and it has been a sort of a Marvel universe fever for the past week also. I was engaged few times with conversations about with friends about how if the Tamil cinema industry attempted to make their very own superhero movie or most likely, their very own version of the Avengers. They certainly have the talent and personnel to do it. Generally, it is more difficult for many of the Indian celebrities to come together and act in the same film due the obvious reasons like their mass appeal and general discontentment of their fans. Imagine if they do come together and accept the roles they get, it may be an unforeseen success. Whether they have the technology and editing skills to do it is another story but they certainly have actors capable enough in pulling out the Avengers roles. Here is what I feel personally of whom should play who from the Indian cinema.

1)      Suriya as Captain America

This was a tough call between Suriya and Ajith. Both these actors have tremendous high mass appeal and it was difficult to nail down to whom might suit this role more. Captain America has the charismatic substance about him and leadership skills among a group. In this case, Ajith is more of a solo player where else Suriya’s performance in the film ‘Aayatha Ezhuthu’ (2004) showed that he more suited for this role. Hence, Suriya is the official captain of the Indian version of the Avengers!

2)      Arya as Thor

This selection is the only one I feel discontent with until now. No one else came to mind of capable of pulling this role and Arya just got the nod because of his stature and height. With this, Arya becomes a demigod of Indian cinema.

3)      Jiiva as Hawkeye

Hawkeye is the Avenger which no one really talks about or fancied him as being their favourite superhero. It is like he is almost non-existent and for the skills he has is totally underrated. The same can be said for actor Jiiva. A promising actor with plenty of potential fits in this role perfectly. He can hold his ground and shine among a group of stars just like how Hawkeye is. Jiiva becomes the Legolas of Indian cinema.

4)      Nayanthara as Black Widow

No brainer selection here. Only Nayanthara can be fierce at one time and be totally soft the other. Her performance in ‘Billa’ (2007) supports this statement as a girl out for revenge after having an unforgettable past. It is almost identical to the origins of Black Widow. Plus, only Nayanthara could match Black Widow’s sexiness I guess. :P

5)      Prakash Raj as Nick Fury

The reason many Indian films are great is because of Prakash Raj. He is the most versatile actor in my eyes in the supporting roles. The Indian version of Avengers could not ask for a better support than him. Prakash Raj would grace this role with ease and not break sweat.

6)      Silambarassan as Iron Man

Another tough one as it was battle between Vijay and Simbu. In ‘Azhagiya Tamil Magan’ (2007), Vijay has ticked the boxes for cocky and playboy but loses out to Simbhu in the advancement box. Iron man is very advanced in terms of his knowledge in the field of IT and Simbhu probably beats Vijay here in his performance for ‘Podaa Podi’ (2012). No one can really doubt Simbhu for his cockiness and playboy ability as well. The Indian cinema has its very own Tony Stark.

7)      Vikram as The Hulk

Can anyone else actually go toe to toe with Vikram for this role? I seriously doubt it. The combination of his miraculous performances in ‘Anniyan’ (2005) and ‘I’ (2015) showed that he can be the calm Bruce Banner and a beast without a problem. Just don’t make Vikram angry and you’ll be safe.

Last but not least,

If only they decide to bring in Spider Man in to the frame by following the original comics,

8)      Dhanush as Spider Man

A humble, vulnerable student trying to impress a wanted girl in school, only Dhanush fits the bill here. It will be great to see him play this role. ‘With great power comes great responsibility’ as quoted from the Spider Man film, Dhanush holds the responsibility of completing the final piece in this Avengers jigsaw.

An early apology if you’re die-hard fans of these actors and this article may seem offensive to you. It was based purely on my preference. Any alteration for the selection in your opinion, feel free to comment below.

Awards Fever: Predictions...

The year of 2014 has been a feast for frequent movie goers and film admires. Like a dog falling into a stack of bones. It has been a real treat. As the prestigious Oscar awards to be announced this Sunday, the race for best picture is heating up faster than an ice can melt. It seems to be a more level playing field as there are no clear favourite to take the prize home as compared to ’12 Years a Slave’ in 2013. The acting in some of these pictures has been admirable as well. When the nominated films were listed, it was difficult to digest the fact that films such as ‘Gone Girl’ and ‘Interstellar’ did not make the cut. Following its recent win in the BAFTA awards, many are predicting ’Boyhood’ to claim the ultimate best picture crown. As much as I respect and admire director’s Linklater 12 year project work of filming a picture using the same cast, the film lack the cutting edge and pace to sustain the audience interest. Before I go through my predictions for some of the Oscar categories, here is a lowdown of some of the nominated films that need to be seen in 2014 and should not be missed by every type of movie goers alike.

BIRDMAN

This is not a superhero movie. I repeat this is not a superhero movie. Personally, this is my most favourite film of 2014 and was lucky enough to catch it in the cinema. This film exposes the situation in current film industry where actors are more renowned by playing a superhero action flick in which the screen time is often lesser compared to an indie drama. The protagonist plays a person trying to revive his career at all costs and the idea of an uninterrupted continuous shot take throughout the movie is truly remarkable in this film. The dialogues, timing and camera angles had to be precise in order to achieve this feat and it truly was.

WHIPLASH

The story of a boy with big dreams but unable to transfer and show his interest to his friends and family because the interest is regarding pure art. In this sort of discouragement is where young adults tend to settle with the norm of being a doctor, engineer or lawyer etc. Some of the scenes in this film were captivating and the final scene has the best ending in any films that I have ever seen.

THE IMITATION GAME

This is a true story of Alan Turing, a British mathematician who managed to break the Nazi codes and enigma by creating a device in which we call as ‘computer’ today. His service was however kept a secret and was later prosecuted for being a homosexual. Benedict Cumberbatch gave an immense performance playing this role.

The full nominations list can be viewed by clicking the link below.

My predictions are based on whom I think will win due to favouritism, age, reputation, nationality and also other awards leading up to this Oscar such as the Golden Globes and BAFTA. I will also state on who I personally feel deserves to win based on pure satisfaction alone as I am no expert in this field. The obvious omission for me from being nominated has been stated as well.

The 87th Academy Award winners will be:
